I was initially reluctant to read yet another young adult series because they all seem to fall into the same category of boring lately. However, I got the 1st book in the series for free and said to myself, what the hay. I am thrilled to say I could not put it down and was very upset that it had ended. I clicked on my trusty Amazon link, typed in the author's name and the rest is history. I love the characters and the way they seem to grow and mature with each book. There is some violence and I found my eyes watering a few times when characters passed that I had grown to like. I purchased all of the books that were available in a two day period. Now I have a bunch of ebooks waiting for me to read. I guess you are wondering why I have not given any names or even hinted at the plots? Well, I want you to read for yourself. I hate book reviews that practically tell the who story like a mini version of cliff notes so I refuse to do it. Just read them!

The Complete Katon University Series

Wonderful series. Having all the books together keeps the continuity of the story flowing. The characters are well rounded and interesting. You find yourself experiencing their emotions as though you were there and rooting for them to suceed. These are people I would like to have as my friends. The story grabs you and will not let go - you have to find out what happens next. I look forward to reading more about the main characters as I understand they are also in the upcoming series 'Mosaic'.

but I am so glad I did

I have not read a lot of YA Fiction. When I read the first book of this series I wanted to read more about the characters. I'm not sure how or where I heard from Andrea Pearson's books, but I am so glad I did. The story did not disappoint me, on the contrary I love it. I love the characters, how the story develops and how they grow to become stronger in their magical powers, the strong friendship they have and the kind of YA they become throughout all the books. After I finished book 5 (Reclaim) I wanted to read more about Nicole and Austin. I love it!!!! Thanks Andrea!!!!

About the Author
J. D. Douglas was the revising editor of The New International Dictionary of the Bible and editor of The New Bible Dictionary. He was editor-at-large for Christianity Today.

Earle E. Cairns (PhD, University of Nebraska) was professor emeritus at Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois. He was a member of the American Society of Church History, the American Historical Association, and the Conference on Faith and History.

Excellent reference

This one-volume work, which runs to more than 1,000 double-column pages and more than 4,800 entries, is a must for the student of church history. Whether one is a novice in the field or has studied church history extensively for many years, having so much information at one's fingertips is extremely valuable. Because this is a one-vloume encyclopedia (though it is called a dictionary) the individual entries are of necessity short (many are one paragraph long, although there are some that are longer); however, they still contain all the essential information that one would expect from an overview. (Just to take one example: I was curious to see what, if anything, the dictionary said about Celestine V, the hermit monk who became Pope. The entry gives the date he became Pope, why he was elected, why he was not really competent to be pope, and the circumstances surrounding his resignation. Although I was already familiar with this pope, the entry provided information I didn't know previously.)

Each entry is written by a recognized scholar in church history. Although I haven't checked every entry for accuracy, when I have looked up something I have found the information to be correct and to correspond with what I know from other sources.

excellent reference

I have the third printing (1979). I have used this book for years and still keep going back to it. It is well worth the reasonable price. There are entries for denominations, movements within the church, other religions, theological concepts, church councils and other important historical events, numerous biographies, etc. Contributing authors are from both sides of the Atlantic and from various denominations, including Anglican, Baptist, Lutheran, Methodist, Presbyterian, etc.

Nothing is left out of this mammouth-sized dictionary, which is comprised of 4,800 articles and intellegently written by more than 180 Protestant scholars. This dictionary reaches back into the deep and monumental two-thousand year history of Christianity and grasps the principle peoples, places, things, philosophies and theologies, missionaries and musicians, heretics and saints, generals and soldiers, poets and historians, all the way to the kings' courts and the Popes' councils. This dictionary is remarkably useful, and will without a doubt exhaust students and scholars alike.

"Is there any significant difference between a machine and a human being?"

A conversation between Christian theology and transhumanism that sheds light on the broader ways that imagining a technological future relies on a rich history of religious dreams about the days ahead, and even the end of days. There's plenty to go on here, in terms of the historical scope of the argument, the huge number of ideas, sources, and lines of thought that are pulled together, and in the substantive engagement with pressing questions and contemporary movements that are actively shaping the lives we live. With a variety of Christian groups on one side, futurists of various stripes on the other, and a growing number of technologies all around (and even inside) us, we are in just the position to find Burdett's study not just interesting or insightful (though it's both), but really truly useful in navigating our world.

As a literature type, I spent the most time in the chapter on science fiction, sifting the ideas about the importance of myths for grounding action. The argument here is really helpful in positioning science fiction as the genre in which we celebrate science and technology, but also as an expression of our suspicions as well as our hopes. Various subgenres and modes within science fiction allow for a variety of engagements with technology. Burdett focuses on issues of affect: the strange wonder of the differences between a science fictional world and ours that create a sense of awe in the audience, an awe that often centers around an encounter with technologies that delight and dazzle us with their power, the "technological sublime."

The turn in the final third of the book toward the divide in values (and corresponding ethical imperatives) between a robust Christian eschatology and a transhumanist vision for the future is the strongest aspect of the overall argument. While there's no alarmist finger wagging here, this is not a book of navel-gazing platitudes but a call to action. The argument closes with an appeal to envision the future in a way that values the present rather than simply rushing past it toward the specter of a future state.

Full-bodied footnotes add a lot of interesting commentary on the various sources quoted, and give a richness to the readings of the various texts. The body of the argument is streamlined, but there is plenty here for anyone who wants to chase down one point or another at greater length.

The idea for this book must have germinated for years before it suddenly popped up in a moment of insight. As a teacher-educator and parent, I always tried to share my respect for families with the students in my classes. I told stories about the many families I knew and invited numerous parents to speak to my classes. Although students were typically inspired and gained valuable insights, they were not fully aware of the wide range of parents they would meet in their classrooms. I wanted to facilitate my students' understanding and respect for the variety of families with which they would work.

I began to ask family members to write their stories for me. I sought to obtain a good mixture of people from across the country, from different income levels and personal histories, from diverse racial and ethnic groups, who had children with various disabilities at various ages. I drew on a number of individuals I met from living and working in various parts of the country. In addition, I contacted other individuals around the country to ask if they were aware of individuals who would be willing to share their stories. These contacts included teachers and administrators, parent e-mail groups, parent centers, and others whom I knew had some interaction with individuals with disabilities. I particularly wanted to include individuals whom others would not consider active in their children's schools or disability organizations, and I looked for fathers and others whom educators may not know as well. The family members wrote or dictated their stories with minimal direction from me. As time passed, I asked for elaboration or clarification of their stories. While I provided some editing or rearranging to make the cases more useable, I was committed to making minimal changes to preserve the tone of each storyteller's voice. I felt that it was important that the individuals be heard and respected just as they were in reality, rather than polished versions. To check the suitability of the story resulting from my editing, family members read and approved my versions. All names were changed to preserve confidentiality.

The activities, margin notes, and commentaries developed over time to emphasize and clarify points, facilitate reflection, tie theory and research to the story, and occasionally to correct the misinformation presented by parents. Even though parents do not always operate with the most accurate or current information, the publisher and I were committed to publishing accurate information for teacher preparation. All of the cases have been field tested and reviewed multiple times, allowing revision to enhance their use. The result is a set of diverse cases that have been successful in stimulating reflection and discussion and, I hope, more reflective practice. It is my hope that, at the end of your work with this book, you will have developed many resources and ideas for working with families. To that end, each case asks you to determine and discuss the best practices that would support and facilitate collaboration with each family.

This little book of case studies will help your students put themselves in the place of families who face many challenges. Students liked the organization of the book, the interesting cases, the thought-provoking content, and the question and resource supports for each case. In fact, I have a student doing her Master of Arts thesis writing case studies, and I provided this book to her as a model of the kind of work that can make a difference.

VBA Programming for Microsoft Project '98 through 2010

Poorly organized, poorly edited, poorly written. With all that it gets 2 stars because sadly it is the only book that even looks badly at the Project object model. If you have to write code for Project, this is the only game town so look for a used affordable copy and bite the bullet. Note you won't find much better help on the web either. I'll add this if I am ever in need of other books on various development issues and I have a choice between this author and someone else, someone else wins hands down. Additionally this is about the only computer book I've ever submitted a review for is how bad this thing is. But again if you have to write code for Project, go on and buy it anyway.

One of the best book I read ...

I would like to first thank God for Dave Roberson. I have read so many books but yet still never found the solution to living a life of holiness and power. Most of these books just increased my knowledge of the word but I still lack the power to overcome the hidden deeds of the flesh. (I felt like all it did was give me head knowledge). Years of struggling and having challenges over certain areas of my life kept me depressed and feeling self condemned to a point where I started giving up. I tried everything, I mean everything. I had people tell me just keep going to church, keep reading the word, but yet still lacked the POWER to overcome the dictates of the flesh. I have read the book TWICE and it changed my life since ... I had receive the gift of the Holy Spirit years ago and had prayed before in tongues but never knews its importance and purpose. I been consistenly praying in tongues and I have been reaping the benefits. Ive prayed for people and they've received their healing from the Lord. I also have been delivered from that addiction of the flesh which had a strong hold on me for years. I feel a greater peace on the inside ever since and can feel the Holy Spirit purging those things in me that is contrary to the will of God. From the beginning to end, the book has given me the answers to my problems, also giving me such a greater understanding of the ministry of the Holy Spirit in the life of the believer and how the Holy Spirit operates within them through speaking in tongues. I come to realize how important the person of the Holy Spirit is in our lives. There are many things we really dont know what to pray for in our own understanding when dealing with our weakness. But the Holy Spirit does the searching within us as He intercedes for us removing anything contrary to the Will of God. He then replaces it with His power to mortify and overcome the deeds of the flesh. It is only THROUGH the SPIRIT we mortify the DEEDs of the flesh. All along Ive been battling these habits of the flesh using my own strength while now Ive learn through this book how to release the Holy Spirit on the inside through praying in our heavenly language to perfect all those things which concerns me. Amazing book!! It also mentions the importance of mediating on God's word and praying in tongues. We must apply both in order to walk in the Spirit and in Power. I gave this book to three of my friends and they agree and testify that this book is practical to where they have been experiencing amazing results. Excellent book and anointed!! I recommend to everyone! This book deals on a personal level with your walk with God. It's all about what I can do to reach and experience the fulness of God and what to do when dealing with the hindrances of my life. There is so many more things I wish I could say but it would be too long to write ..lol.. I pray this inspired you to get this book ... Much Grace in HIM!

Excellent book for revelation knowledge about the power of praying in tongues. Yes this is a very real gift that you can use today, and it's much more powerful than you might think.

Challenging

I recommend this book if you are serious about wanting a closer/deeper relationship with the Godhead. The theology presented lines up with the Scriptures. This is the best book I've encountered which explains the differences in praying in tongues for personal edification vs. the gift of tongues, etc. I have read this book numerous times, gleaning additional insight with each reading. The gift of our prayer language is misunderstood. Most Christians do not realize the importance of utilizing what God has so freely given to those who ASK. Simply written, it is the truth of God's Word unveiled for those who will believe God's Word inspite of man's teaching.
