Über den Autor: 1776 in Königsberg auf die Vornamen Ernst Theodor Wilhelm getauft, nennt er sich später aus Verehrung für Mozart Ernst Theodor Amadeus oder kurz E.T.A. Hoffmann. Er studiert Jura in Königsberg, wird Referendar am Berliner Kammergericht, wegen Karikaturen auf preußische Offiziere strafversetzt nach Polen und schließlich Kapellmeister in Bamberg. Bis er 1814 nach Berlin zurückkehrt widmet er sein künstlerisches Schaffen vornehmlich der Musik. Er wird zum Kammergerichtsrat berufen, gründet den Serapinenorden und schreibt seine großen Romane, Die Elixiere des Teufels und die Lebensansichten des Katers Murr, sowie zahlreiche Erzählungen, deren vorletzte, der Meister Floh, beschlagnahmt wird, weil der preußische Polizeidirektor in der Figur des Knarrpanti eine Satire auf seine Person sieht. 1822 erkrankt E.T.A. Hoffmann schwer und diktiert - völlig gelähmt - vom Sterbebett aus die Erzählung Des Vetters Eckfenster, in der der große Romantiker sich dem kritischen Realismus annähert bevor er am 25. Juni in Berlin stirbt.

About the Author
Hoffmann wurde am 24.1.1776 in Königsberg geboren. Sein Vater war Advokat. Nach dem Gymnasium in Königsberg studierte er von 1792-1795 Jura. Als Referendar arbeitete er 1796 in Glogau und 1798 in Berlin. Ab 1800 arbeitete er als Assessor in Posen, wurde strafversetzt nach Plozk in Polen. Etwa 1805 zog er nach Berlin, wo sich seine Begabung als Musiker, Zeichner und Schriftsteller vollends entwickeln konnte. Ab 1814 war er wieder am Kammergericht in Berlin angestellt. Hoffmann starb am 25.6.1822 in Berlin.

Great Introduction to a generative analysis of language

For the longest time, I have been interested in generative linguistics, but I couldn't understand principles such as Extended Projection Principle (EPP) and the distinction of phrases (e.g., CP, IP, and DP). I like reading a lot of current published work in linguistics framed in Minimalism, so this book has really helped me understand the current concerns in linguistics by it explaining concepts such as from X-Bar (that was framed in Government and Binding) before preceding onto more current modes of analysis. Furthermore, it seems to help me analyze language too.
