Owner of Bare Knuckle Choppers and long time motorcycle builder and fabricator, Paul Wideman is the perfect author for this book. With experience as both a hands-on builder and technical editor for Cycle Source Magazine, Paul has exactly the skill-set needed to write a book on fabrication.
Paul starts at the beginning, with a discussion of the materials commonly used to fabricate custom motorcycle frames, fenders, brackets and all the rest. This discussion includes not only steel but also aluminum and stainless.
Joining metal - welding - is an essential part of building almost anything and the copy here includes, TIG and MIG welding, as well as Stick and Oxy/Acetylene welding. In each case, Paul covers sub topics like penetration, strength, getting started and the relative size of the heat-affected-zone.
Most custom motorcycle frames, as well as many of the brackets that hold things together, are made from tubing. Thus the book includes an entire section on bending and notching tubing to achieve a precise fit between any two parts prior to welding.
The other skill a good fabricator needs is machining on both a mill and lathe. Paul walks the reader through the basics for both types of machining: set up, cutting speed and tools, lubrication and cooling, and safety.
Some commonly fabricated parts like handle bars and exhaust systems are covered as separate topics, along with sections on building simple brackets and mounts.

About the Author
Paul Wideman started Bare Knuckle Choppers over nine years ago with a passion for motorcycle fabrication and a penchant for precision. Coupling perfection with his drive for innovation, Paul has brought Bare Knuckle Choppers to the forefront of the American custom motorcycle scene. Never scared to tackle a previously unconquered task, Paul and BKC have built numerous award-winning bikes, and have been featured in every American motorcycle magazine, as well as many foreign publications. Bare Knuckle Choppers is responsible for production and R&D for many of the country's leading custom bike builders, while at the same time maintaining an ever-evolving parts line of their own. In addition to heavy fabwork and precision machining, Paul has branched out into the literary world. Since 2007, Paul has also been a major contributor to Cycle Source magazine; first as a tech contributor and creator of Buy American or Die, a research column dedicated to promoting American manufacturing, and more recently as Senior Tech Editor. In early 2012 Paul coauthored Bike Building Basics, an instructional book aimed at the amateur to mid level motorcycle builder. 2013 finds Paul and Bare Knuckle Choppers pushing forward with many new projects, both welded and written.
