Buyer beware - there is only one session!

The dvd sessions are not as advertised. I purchased the dvd and discussion guide to use for a small group Bible study. We have some barely-literate adults in the study, so I prefer to use dvd's rather than books. I purchases this dvd expecting to find six sessions of Keller's simple teaching relating to The Prodigal God. Unfortunately, the dvd actually contains only one session of 38 minutes. The following five "sessions" were each 1-2 minute clips from the original 38 minute session! The dvd simply does not contain the six sessions as advertised on this website and the cover of the dvd.
Further, the discussion guide assumes with each session that the participants are reading Keller's book "The Prodigal God." The first discussion question for each session asks, "What did you learn by reading chapter [x] this week?" The questions are thus more connected to the book than the dvd. There is, therefore, no way to use this dvd and discussion guide without each person in the group purchasing and reading the book, and if each person purchases and reads the book, then the dvd has very little to add. This means that for our Bible study group, we had to decide between either buying and reading the books, or discarding the study altogether.
In general, I have a high regard for Keller's teachings and writings. Unfortunately, this dvd and discussion guide seem to be a publisher's shady ploy to maximize the profitability of his Prodigal God book.

Excellent 35 minute talk presented by Keller

Excellent 35 minute talk presented by Keller. It opens aspects of the story I have never been aware of. There are six sessions of discussion material, each started with a 2 minute segment of the talk. For my money, the 2 minute segments are nowhere near enough. By the second week people have forgotten what was said in the first week's talk. Sometimes you have people coming in who didn't hear the original talk. You might say, "why can't they just read the book?" but then you have to ask, "is it DVD based discussion or book based?" I ended up going back and editing salient points from the dvd that related to the week's topic, giving me a ten to fifteen minute opening talk each week. Either the producers should have done this, or Keller should have done a short talk for each session, marshalling the relevant material for that week. It has taken hours to cut it up, so I'm slightly disappointed. However it's an excellent video (despite the constant background music), excellent book, and, of course, revolutionary subject matter.

This was supposed to be a six-session video. It's one28 minute video and 5 one-minute review clips. Did not meet my expectations.
