Decent Book, but doesn't focus on what you need

The question stems were similar in length and style in comparison to how they would be on an NBME.
A lot of useful information but also mixed in with superfluous teaching points.

Disclaimer: Can't speak for other people's experience on their NBME....
Contrary to the book, there wasn't much neuro or genetics stuff I encountered on my exam. Not much biochemistry either.
I also wish it would have focused more in regards to pathophysiology and management of major organ systems rather than simply identifying diseases and conditions. This is what the NBME seems to primarily consider on their exams.
But all in all, I would still recommend that students use this book for content and to improve your fund of knowledge. Not something to rely on; would be prudent to supplement w/ first aid or blueprints.

Good review book, but lacking in some areas

I've been using the Pre-Test series for all the rotations I have done so far (surgery and neurology), and like the other books in the series, PreTest for Pediatrics provides a good overview of which topics to know about for the shelf exam. I also personally like using the question-answer format for reviewing material because the information sticks better than from just reading a paragraph in Blueprints or First Aid. However, I've noticed that some of the answer sections at the back are lacking in a discussion of why a certain answer is better than the other, and I had to look up the information elsewhere. Also, the question format is not as similar to the USMLE questions as I'd like (they use many more buzz words in PreTest, and the question stems are not as long as the ones on shelf exams). They also have a few questions on very low-yield material.

In summary, this book is very useful when used in conjunction with a more in-depth, text-book type book and is nice to carry around with you on wards to study when you have a short period of free time, but not great if you are trying to thoroughly learn the material.

Good product, but not a "must-have."

Did well on the board (end up with an "A" with my school's score conversion), and there's a lot of good information in this book, but a good portion of the questions are sort of beyond the scope of what you really need to know unless you're planning a career in Ped's. Overall, I'd recommend this product as a review/study resource for the board and any in-house quizzes or exams, but it's not a "must have."

About the Author

Abby Johnson holds a B.S. in psychology from Texas A&M University and an M.A. in counseling from Sam Houston State University. She was hired by Planned Parenthood and eventually became a clinic manager in Texas, where she ran both the family planning and abortion programs. She was Planned Parenthood's 2008 Employee of the Year. In 2009 she left Planned Parenthood and has since been an international pro-life advocate. She told the story of her dramatic conversion in her best-selling book, Unplanned. Abby founded the organization And Then There Were None, which helps abortion clinic workers leave the industry.

Kristin Detrow's passion for the pro-life movement started when her twins were diagnosed with a serious medical condition in utero and she refused a specialist's recommendation to abort one of her babies. Today, she is the mother of healthy twin boys and a daughter adopted from Uganda. Special needs adoption and orphan care are of the utmost importance to Kristin. She works to help deaf children living in poverty through Deaf Child Hope and also works with Abby Johnson at And Then There Were None to help abortion clinic workers leave the industry. Kristin is the author of pro-life novel The Intrusion. She lives in Maryland with her husband and children

This is not easy to read simply due to subject matter but it gives the reader a look into what former abortion workers experienced, saw and did. I think it takes tremendous courage for them to come forward and share their stories. I am grateful.

Great book, but I thought it was going to ...

Great book, but I thought it was going to go into what it finally took to convert the workers and compel them to leave their employment in the abortion industry.
As one who has been praying in front of an abortion center for 5 years, I was hoping to get more of an insight of what goes on in the mind of these poor souls who work in such a terrible place of darkness.

Once again though Abby Johnson does a great job at conveying the reality, that we cannot and should not judge others. What we need to do is pray for them and try as best we can to show them God's mercy and forgiveness.

Lots of religion may be a deal breaker

It he subject matter is a bit hard to handle but it is abortion so that's expected. The personal stories are great and definitely help to see the deception of the abortion industry. However, even being Catholic myself, the book references God and prayer a lot which can definitely deter agnostics or atheists, pretty common bunch in the pro abortion movement. I'm a bigger fan of using facts and science but all in all the book was an interesting read and would be especially great for the prolife Christians out there.

Great Book, buyer beware

I was extremely excited to get this book, when it arrives I noticed that one of the pages was slightly torn. I am aware at this time, The book was just published less than a month ago so I can understand that maybe the first line may have had some issues, still a great book, just be careful.

Boring. Repetitive

I'll keep this quick and simple. Boring. Repetitive. Save your money. There aren't a lot of books out there about Christopher Nolan, so I was excited about this one. Sadly, it was just a book waxing philosophical about Nolan's films and nothing more. If that is your bag, enjoy. But if you want a thorough biography about one of the greatest directors of all time, I'm afraid you'll have to keep waiting.

Varied Problems Yield Good Refresher

This collection of numerous problems in both old atomic theory as well as (slightly) more modern theory is a great review to students who may have taken introductory QM classes and need a refresher, or as a supplement to those students currently learning QM. The topics covered are varied and problems include complete solutions. Overall a good volume to include in any early theorist's collection.

This is one of the most complete problem and solution book for the undergraduate quantum physics I have seen. Don't be disappointed by the look of this book, although it is printed somewhat unusual i.e cheap paper small fonts but, its complete.

The problems are much like the problems you can find in quantum chemistry or quantum mechanics books( undergraduate) and the solutions are clear and concise. Of course prior knowledge in quantum mechanics and physical chemistry is required but that you already have if you are looking for a solution book parallel with your text book.

At the beginning of every chapter some explanation and key points are given that help to recall from text book without opening the text book.

I would say, its cheap and its almost complete for undergraduate in physics and more than complete for undergraduate in chemistry.

Fine Book - Can't Look at It, though

Its been covered that its a good Quantum problems book, but I really can't read it. I knew it was old, but it looks like it was done on a type-writer. Can't fault them though, Caveat Emptor.

Great option!

Absolutely love the information provided in this text. I have the other books available for English A: Literature, but this one destroys them all. I have actually had trainings with both of these authors and I just got the book at one of the trainings. I am trying to get our coordinator to buy them for all of our students now. Lots of new stuff in here. Great explanation of individual genre conventions. The breakdown of assessments is perfect - includes a lot of important and relevant information on individual assessments.
