About the Author
Chris Sajnog is a retired Navy SEAL Master Firearms Instructor, Neural-Pathway Training (NPT) Expert, speaker and Disabled Veteran Small Business Owner. He is one of the most experienced and respected firearms trainers in the world, being hand-selected to develop the training for the US Navy SEAL Sniper program. As a Navy SEAL he was the senior sniper instructor, a certified Master Training Specialist (MTS), BUD/S and advanced training marksmanship instructor. After retiring from the SEAL Teams in 2009 to spend time with his family, Chris began training civilians and law enforcement officers. He is the founder of the New Rules of Marksmanship, a revolutionary approach to firearms training and has a passion for finding innovative ways to teach elite-level shooting skills online as rapidly as possible to his students. He is a federal and state certified firearms instructor and has trained DOD, DHS, FBI, CIA, Law Enforcement, and multiple foreign allies in all aspects of combat weapons handling, marksmanship, and tactics. Single Best Shooting Instructional Book Ever Written

"I've been shooting professionally as a law enforcement veteran and as a civilian gun owner for more than 30 years. After reading Chris Sajnog's new book Navy SEAL Shooting one thing was immediately clear to me: This is the single best shooting book ever written.
I've directly participated in more than 1,000 hours of "professional" practical and tactical firearms training all over the U.S. No instructor I know can bring the same subject matter expertise and instructional ability that Sajnog has demonstrated in this book, not even close.
What I found to be most refreshing was all of the actual SCIENCE that he relies upon, not just anecdotal theories and regurgitated practices. Sajnog could have easily taken the easy street in authoring this book by relying only on his professional credentials (SEAL Sniper Instructor), but he didn't. It's clear that he has actually conducted a great deal of science-based research critically needed to validate his teachings.
The book's content is highly technical and game changing. However, Sajnog presents his wisdom in a way that makes it easy to grasp as a reader and perhaps more importantly, how to apply as a shooter. Novice or expert, this is a 'must have' book for any shooter looking to improve his or her craft!"

5 Ways to Shoot Just Like a Navy SEAL Shoots
Chris Sajnog reached out to us here at The WON before his book, Navy SEAL Shooting: Learn how to shoot from their leading instructor, was published this past August. It sounds a little ominous and maybe intimidating, but instantly Sajnog put me to rest with his conversational, yet authoritative, approach to teaching gun skills.

Here are 5 ways from the book that I’ve immediately adopted so that I can shoot more like a Navy SEAL. I highlighted the book as I read it, so that I could come back to it and refresh my memory and also, let you know how meaningful it was to me.
Love for the people in our lives is the reason true warriors train.
Because “motion comes from emotion,” Sajnog believes that you will train for either competition shooting or personal defensive shooting based on love. You will love the sport of shooting or you will love the idea of being able to defend yourself, your friends and family. Once you realize that your need to learn to shoot well stems from this love, it’s easy to justify to yourself and others the time and expense required to be a better shooter.
You must have a training plan, and stick to it.
Sajnog urges you to discover your weakest areas of shooting and hone in on training to make yourself a better shooter faster. Don’t waste time doing the easy drills that either come naturally or that you are already good at doing. That means, you must set goals.
Dry weapons training is essential.
You’re probably familiar with the term “dry-fire,” where you safely practice pulling the trigger at a target without any live loads in the gun. Sajnog calls it “dry weapons training,” because it includes not only firing the firearm, but also holstering it and unholstering it, drawing and any other skills that will accompany the need for you to fire a dry gun. When people ask why it’s important to dry-fire, Sajnog – in typical fashion – gives this answer:
Patience, young Jedi. Think about it: when you dry-fire, you can practice all these skills you normally work on live fire (minus recoil management) without going to the range and paying for targets, ammo, range time and these days, gas.”
He analogizes dry-firing with drills, such as professional sports teams run, in order to become proficient at the overall skillset.
If the gun doesn’t fit, you’re not going to hit.
Throughout the book, Sajnog includes photos that support his training techniques. How to grip the gun is an essential must-accomplish goal for any shooter. He recommends a 2-handed technique for a handgun, and tells folks not to worry about the 60/40 (strong hand/weak hand) ratio, and to concentrate on dropping the threat and pointing your thumbs at the target. “I’ve found that the more things you have pointed at your target, the better chance you have at hitting it.”
Meditation Increases Your Ability to Focus
This chapter surprised me. I’ve long suspected that meditation would benefit me in so many ways, but never thought about shooting-related rewards from the practice. Sajnog admits this might be too “touchy-feely” for some of us.
“To be a great shooter you must reach a state where you are not separate from the gun; you’re no longer just this person back there trying to control it. The gun, the target, your vision, and your whole body become one.”
I’m up to about 5 minutes a day of meditation, and it’s tough – especially for me, because I like to get moving as soon as my feet hit the floor each morning. I can see benefits already, though, even in my shooting … I’m able to block out the world around me more and reach out to the target with my mind’s eye, and not just the front site on it.

The reason I'm giving my background in shooting is not to try to make me look good or anything

A little background on me...I've been actively shooting for about 37 years. I used to shoot IPSC with Rob Leatham and Brian Enos in AZ on a weekly basis. I learned quite a lot from them during that time. I've had other formal LE firearms training and participated in other training as well over the years. The reason I'm giving my background in shooting is not to try to make me look good or anything, but instead to say I've trained with and worked with some really great shooters over the years but I'm here to say that that's not the most important aspect in learning to shoot. Sure, if you watch carefully you'll pick things up from other shooters but what I think is better is to be able to train with a great Firearm's Instructor. I say this because a lot of people can shoot but not very many of them can break it all down and teach someone to shoot well. I'm a decent shot with both pistol and rifle and I'm pretty detailed oriented, but I have to say that Chris is the best I've seen in breaking things down and teaching someone how to learn and practice so that you are practicing correctly, etc. I thought I was ok at breaking things down in training until I read his books and learned I could do things better and understand why it's better. I did find validation for several training methods I use in shooting that match what Chris is teaching but I also found much, much more. If I could only say one thing about this book I would say this: BUY IT... It's worth every penny and then some! Then practice what you've learned and you WILL be a better shooter no matter what level you are at right now. Trust me on this...Chris is the real deal and this book is too!
